District Blossoms Water Polo Club teaches youth athletes the sport of water polo and provides competitive travel opportunities. They offer programming for all levels—from beginners learning fundamentals to experienced players competing in regional and national tournaments.
Challenge / Approach
Built early on to feel friendly and welcoming for beginners, the club has grown older, stronger, and more competitive. The current look no longer matches the level of play and lacks the strength and professionalism of a serious program. Branding needs to reflect an established, competitive identity and shift away from a cartoony mascot toward a bold, iconic sports look.
Solution / Outcome
The new branding is aligned with the more competitive direction and instead of a cheerful mascot, we created a brand identity that focused more on the cherry blossom imagery. In conjunction with a more iconic, and pro-style look, we integrated elements that was important to the brand, such as: DC imagery, a nod to the tri-state area where the club operates and of course, stylized water polo ideas.
Impact
The updated branding immediately re-energized the club, created stronger recognition across their competitive circuit and gave the program a visual identity that finally matches the level they compete at.
